We are committed to providing specialized and personalized service to our members. When you need to speak to or meet with your assigned claims expert, all you need to do is pick up the phone. We are here to assist you and make an unnerving experience as manageable as possible.

Our claims process

All Claims must be reported in writing by letter, fax, or email. Telephone notice is NOT sufficient to constitute notice under the Policy.

A Claim is defined under the Policy as “a demand including service of suit or institution of arbitration proceedings, for money against an Insured.” All Claims (written or oral demands for money whether made in person, by email, letter, or any other communication or correspondence, including lawsuits and/or demands to arbitrate, etc.) should be sent by one of the three methods listed below:

Members are required to tender potential claims (Section 5.3 of the Policy) in writing as soon as possible and in advance of the renewal process.

Be sure to include a description of:

A. The specific act, error, omission or Personal Injury.

B. The injury or damage which has or may result from such act, error, omission or Personal Injury.

C. The circumstances by which the Insured firm became aware of such act, error, omission or Personal Injury.

What happens once a claim is tendered?

Once your tender is received, your submission is reviewed and a claims expert is assigned to your matter. You are promptly contacted and the process of evaluating your tender commences. If it becomes appropriate to appoint defense counsel, a member of our first-rate panel is assigned to defend your firm. Throughout the claims process, you will be proactively informed of the claims’ status.

How do I get answers?

Lawyers’ Mutual maintains a Hotline which can be reached during normal business hours to enable members to obtain information regarding general questions. Simply call 800-252-2045 and ask for the Hotline.
