This California Notice at Collection is provided by Lawyers’ Mutual Insurance Company and describes how we collect, use, and retain information that relates to California residents (“Personal Information”). This Notice applies to Personal Information that Lawyers’ Mutual collects both online and offline, including when you access or use our Website (www.lawyersmutual.com), any other applications or services that link to this Notice at Collection, or when you otherwise communicate directly with us (collectively, our “Services”).
We encourage you to read this Notice at Collection carefully as it describes our information practices. Please note that we do not engage in the sale or sharing of personal information, including sensitive personal information, including that of minors under 16 years of age.

1. Personal Information We Collect.
The types of Personal Information we collect about you depend on how you interact with us. This includes, for example, Personal Information that you provide in order to obtain our services, when communicating directly with us (including when communicating with us on behalf of an organization you are affiliated with), or to use certain parts of our website.
The categories of Personal Information that you may provide to us include:
- Identifiers, such as your name, mailing address, phone number, email address, Social Security number, login information pertaining to your “Lawyers’ Mutual CLE Account,” and information required to process claims made under Lawyers’ Mutual policies.
- Demographic Information, such as your age.
- Education Information, such as law school attended.
- Professional Information, such as you California bar information and areas of practice.
- Financial Information, such as bank account information that you provide when paying premiums or registering for CLEs on our Website. Please note that all credit/debit card information you submit relating to any transaction with Lawyer’s Mutual is processed by a third-party payment provider and is not stored by Lawyers’ Mutual.
- Claim Information, which refers to the information provided to process claims made under Lawyers’ Mutual policies, such as descriptions and details of any specific act, error or omission or personal injury, and the circumstances by which the firm became aware of such act.
- User Content, such as comments that you post to our social media pages, blogs, or other forums on our Services. Please note that if you post information on public areas of the Services, that information will be collected and used by Lawyers’ Mutual, other users of the Services, and the public generally. We strongly recommend that you do not post any information through the Services that allows strangers to identify or locate you or that you otherwise do not want to share with the public.
- Audio and Visual Information, such as your voice and likeness as captured in photographs, video, or audio recordings, including when you leave us a voicemail, leave a review on our Website, or tag us on social media that includes a photo or video of you.
- Sensitive Personal Information, which is a defined term under applicable law and includes information such as your Social Security number.
- Device Information, such an information pertaining to the device through which you interact with our Services, such as your IP address, the type of device used to interact with the Services, that device’s operating system and version, MAC address, user settings, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Services that you visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other data.
- Internet or Other Electronic Network Activity Information, such as information regarding your interactions with us and our Services, which may include pages that you visited while using our Services, total number of Website visitors, information about the links you click, the types of content you interact with, the time and date of your visit, the frequency and duration of your activities, and other information about how you use our Services.

- Device Information, such an information pertaining to the device through which you interact with our Services, such as your IP address, the type of device used to interact with the Services, that device’s operating system and version, MAC address, user settings, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Services that you visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other data.
- Internet or Other Electronic Network Activity Information, such as information regarding your interactions with us and our Services, which may include pages that you visited while using our Services, total number of Website visitors, information about the links you click, the types of content you interact with, the time and date of your visit, the frequency and duration of your activities, and other information about how you use our Services.
Lawyers’ Mutual may also collect Personal Information from third-party sources, such as CLE providers, bar associations, insurers, and member premium finance providers. We may also receive information about you from social media platforms, such as when you interact with us on those platforms or access our social media content. The categories of Personal Information we collect from these sources are provided below.
- Identifiers, such as your name and email address.
- Professional Information, such as CLE information (enrollment, attendance, etc.).
- Commercial/Insurance-Related Information, such as information pertaining to claims that you may make through our complimentary cyber insurance coverage or in relation to your annual coverage information.
2. How We Use Personal Information.
Lawyers’ Mutual uses Personal Information for the following purposes:
- To provide our products and services, including processing and fulfilling your requests for coverage with Lawyers’ Mutual; process claims you have made; evaluate any applications you submit in connection with the products and services we provide; and operate, troubleshoot, and improve our websites and other digital properties.
- To respond to, notify, or otherwise communicate with you, including when you reach out to us with a comment, request, or question; or otherwise to send you technical notices, updates, security alerts, and other administrative messages.
- To personalize your experiences with us, such as remembering your information on our Website so that you do not have to re-enter it each time you visit our Website;
- For research and analytical purposes,including to understand how you use our Services (including our websites), the methods you use to access our Services, and to make improvements to our Services.
- For marketing purposes and advertising purposes, including to send you marketing and advertising communications tailored to your interests and more general in nature; to deliver our newsletter and special offers; to send you general information about other products, services, CLEs and events that we offer; and to provide and assess the effectiveness of our events, promotional campaigns, and other offerings.
- For our business purposes, including to operate and improve or business and Services, internal administration, and data analysis; detecting, preventing, and responding to actual or potential fraud, illegal activities, or intellectual property infringement; and for any other business purpose permitted by law.
- For legal and safety purposes, including to defend or protect us, you, our clients, or third parties from harm or in legal proceedings; maintain the security of our clients, employees, and property; respond to court orders, lawsuits, subpoenas, and government requests; address legal and regulatory compliance; and notify you of any other legal or safety issues.
- For purposes that you have otherwise consented to, including at the time the Personal Information is collected.
3. Retention of Personal Information.
We retain your Personal Information for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Please note that in many situations we must retain all, or a portion, of your Personal Information to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, to protect against fraudulent, deceptive, or illegal activity, or for another business purpose.
